STRATEGIC PARTNERS

Mar 05, 2014

Last month another small group of BUV driver/operators were trained and certified!  This month they're running their own transportation companies through rent-to-own use of BUVs in rural areas.  Allow us to tell you more about that :)

BUV stands for Basic Utility Vehicle and, true to its name, it's a rugged utilitarian vehicle that can handle the rough roads, or lack thereof, here in East Africa.  Designed by engineers at the Institute for Affordable Transportation in Indiana, the vehicle was specifically created to provide suitable, affordable transportation and give opportunities for the very poor to create their own businesses and provide for their families and communities.

At Wema we work through strategic partnerships to pair skills, increase resources and multiply results.  In this way, Wema assists BUV in order to maximize the efforts of both parties.  In other words, we give a lot of our time and energy each and every week to this excellent program.

At last month's training the men learned about business planning, marketing, mechanics, money management and their own potential as men of God.  Our favorite quote from the week came from the translator working alongside our partner, Scott Price.  Having absorbed so much information about BUVthrough listening and repeating, he finally interrupted to say, "You're doing something great that no one else is doing here!"  :)

We love being involved with this!
