The government of the United States lists the average daily wage in East Africa as less than $2. With a struggling education system that can't promise real future benefit, life is very tough for local people. Compassion from wealthy countries is a beautiful thing, but a constant flow of aid leads to a crippling dependency that keeps people trapped in cycles of poverty. It has been said, "Giving to those in need what they could be gaining from their own initiative may well be the kindest way to destroy people."
Through Wema, people are EMPOWERED to gain from their own initiatives. We believe this is our God-designed response to the hundreds of Biblical references to the poor and our responsibility toward them. Our friends at Poverty Cure like to ask “What steps is your church or mission group taking to partner with job makers?” We feel your partnership and value it tremendously. Though the statistics are overwhelming and our efforts can feel small, we are encouraged by God’s word to Gideon, “Go in the strength you have.” Your gifts of support are a vital part of the strength we have. THANK YOU for helping us provide work that changes lives here in East Africa!
