Paulo's life in a fairly traditional Maasai village would have played out quite differently amid the "typical" conditions of poverty and hampered potential if it hadn't been for some key factors. The first life-changer was that a small church was started near his home and, as a young man, Paulo came into a relationship with Christ. Secondly, a devastating drought took most of his family's herds, leaving them without resources to continue eking out their living as herdsmen. Thirdly, the BUV guys approached Paulo about receiving training as a driver/operator and Paulo responded with an eagerness and aptitude that made him a great candidate.
Through BUV, Wema is part of facilitating Paulo's ability to now generate an income, providing for his family while bringing a valued service to the local community, through his self-run transport business. As a graduate of BUV's training program, Paulo has a rent-to-own contract which allows him to earn money while slowly "paying forward" the BUV cost so that someone else can benefit from the same set up in the near future.
With earnings from his hard work, Paulo has built his parents a simple but well appreciated home on the family land, and purchased a plot for himself closer to town. He provides leadership in his local church and is an inspiration to others as his faithfulness in many areas bears fruit.
Wema is thankful to be part of Paulo's story :)
